Brady, Mathew B.
( 1823, cerca del lago George, N.Y., EE.UU.–15 ene. 1896, Nueva York, N.Y.).

Fotógrafo estadounidense. Aprendió a hacer daguerrotipos con Samuel F.B. Morse. En 1844 abrió los primeros dos estudios en la ciudad de Nueva York, y comenzó a fotografiar a gente famosa (entre ellos Daniel Webster, Edgar Allan Poe y Henry Clay). En 1847, Brady abrió un estudio en Washington, D.C., y ahí creó, copió y coleccionó retratos de presidentes estadounidenses. Adquirió fama internacional con Galería de estadounidenses ilustres (1850). En 1861 comenzó a realizar un completo registro de la guerra de Secesión, con un personal compuesto por más de 20 fotógrafos, que incluían a Timothy H. O'Sullivan y Alexander Gardner. Es probable que haya fotografiado él mismo las batallas de Bull Run, Antietam y Gettysburg.
